As we count down to Pastry Live Weekend August 26-28th, here is a second look at what has taken place in previous years leading up to this year's event. This week's Pastry Postcard takes us back to:

2008 Casting Challenge
Student & Professional Competitions

(Miniseries 2 of 4) Pastry Postcard-Special
Held at Art Institute of Atlanta, home to instructor and organizer Chef Paul Bodrogi, the driving concept behind the casting challenge was to use silicone molds in non-traditional ways with new techniques. The participants could choose from a large variety of stock silicone molds provided by Michael Joy and the Chicago School of Mold Making to make their showpieces. This Casting Challenge offered two days of casting artistry. On the first day, six pastry students and their assistants worked their sugar with refreshing and distinctive results. The following day, five local professionals came into the kitchens and the 'Sugar Art Casting Challenge' took casting sugar to an imaginative level. Come join the fun, exprience Pastry Postcards!

Countdown to August 26-28th in Atlanta, Georgia!



The two-day seminars are taught by renowned pastry chefs Jean-Marie Auboine, Susan Notter with Karen Portaleo, and Stéphane Tréand, MOF on August 26th & 27th.

On the 28th, The National Showpiece Championship kicks off. This year's teams include Andy Chlebana & Nancy Carey, Tracy DeWitt & David Smoake, Heather Hurlbert & Natasha Capper, Yoni Morales & Alfredo Rueda and Jim Mullaney & David Ramirez. The teams have six hours to build one showpiece either in sugar or chocolate. With no theme and few limits, the results are sure to be like nothing we've seen before!
